If you are of the more adventurous type and loves bio-diversity then the best place for you to explore is Calamian, composed by the islands of Coron, Busuanga and Culion. These are the islands where to find spectacular drop-offs' deep dives, caves and wrecks and a rich varied marine life. The are more than 500 marine species to encounter as compared to the Caribbeans only 60.

Be aware that there are no fancy 5 star hotels or restaurants here. No Macdonald’s, no KFC’s, no ATM’s, no aircons. So whenever you plan on going here, you’ll be in for an adventure. It’s just between you and mother nature.

Wreck Dives

The area is central to historical marine battles between the US and Japanese fleets during the second World War. A handful of war-torn Japanese ships were sunk during those days most of which were supply cargo ships. Shipwrecks can be found in a depth as shallow as 30 feet and as deep as 140 feet, perfect for sports divers. This is why Coron is one of the favorite destinations for wreck diving sites in the country. Diving enthusiasts, seasoned and recreation divers alike frequent here to explore the Japanese shipwrecks of World War, an underwater museum so to speak.

The area around the shipwrecks also have pleasant rock formations which provide for excellent snorkeling opportunities, with underwater visibility extending up to 80 feet.

Famous wreck dives include the Irako, a Japanese refrigeration ship and a wreck teeming with marine life such as big groupers, tuna, yellow fin, lion and scorpion fish, etc. It is possible to go down into a cargo hold at 36m and swim through its galley. Then there is Okikawa Maru wreck which is a civilian tanker lying in about 26m deep and is the largest of the wrecks. This wreckage is also abound with several species of marine life. Aside from these two, there are at least 8 other wrecks to explore each of which offers spectacular views, diving challenges, and exotic marine species.

The Cathedral Cave

Not to be missed, is the famous Cathedral Cave, a cavern under the island, also known as “Gunter’s Cave” so-called because it was named after Gunther Bernert who was one of the first group to explore it. The cave illuminates when a shaft of daylight penetrating from a fissure higher up the outside rock face. Breathtaking colorful corals are visible in the area and look out for lobsters and cowry shells. Entrance is through a near-vertical “well” opening, 6 meters deep underneath Coron islands southern-most cliff, then tunnel-dive 12 meters toward the cave. What you’ll see after that is an 8-meter deep crystal-clear water, an awe-inspiring interior adorned by stalactite/stalagmite formations, shiny-smooth limestone walls and an oval rock window through which a single shaft of daylight illuminates the cave’s prehistoric interior.

<img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_-QofBle4Ywg/S9AP9l1mu-I/AAAAAAAABG0/Pb2wkcFYgrI/video70d364036a68%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('46684763-9093-4f92-bd00-8ec62f52549e'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

rouelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12383268494391838768noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6754766995979272265.post-47767240222797567722010-04-05T16:43:00.001+08:002011-12-07T23:43:25.880+08:00Amanpulo

Amanpulo or peaceful island, is I would probably say synonymous to spectacular. It is a breathtaking splurge of mother nature’s display of grandeur. A perfect getaway for those who seeks seclusion from the ruins of men and into the opulence of nature. It is a paradise you can call your own. It is highly recommended for those who are seeking the ultimate romantic vacation for it is an isolated haven and a private refuge. Of course, it does come at a high price due to its high-end standards and accommodations.

Rates may vary from $880 to as high as $3930 depending on the rooms availed. These rates may also change per season. Do note that these rates does not include service charges and taxes, as well as the roundtrip airfare which costs $400 for adults and $200 for children. The island is serviced by a Dornier 228-220K, a 19-seater charter plane flying from Manila, which is used to ferry customers and to bring supplies to the resort. This is the only means of getting in and out of the island for guests which gives the feeling of remoteness from civilization. As for the employees, most of them come from the nearby island of Manamoc.

Amanpulo is set on its own private island, Pamalican which is part of the Quiniluban group of Cuyo island in the Sulu Sea. It is flanked by coral reefs, rimmed with crystal clear waters and fringed with powdery white-sand beaches. These properties of the island and its neighboring isles are very well tailor-made for both water-sports enthusiasts and sunbathers alike.

For an island of such a small size, guests will find themselves isolated from the rest of the world but will be completely overwhelmed by the island’s sheer attractions. They’ll never run out of things to do. This tiny island off the tip of Panay in the Visayas, is home to a number of world-class beaches. It’s white sand beaches and pristine waters attract close to 700,000 tourists a year and generates about 250 million dollars for the Philippine economy. It has been rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and one of the best tropical beach if not the best in Asia.

Boracay is composed of three barangays, Yapak in the north, Balabag in the center and manoc-Manoc in the south and is home to about 6,000 residents. The north and south part of the island are hilly with elevations up to 100 meters above sea level which is very suited for hiking. Leisure activities available on Boracay include scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kite boarding or just plain basking in the sun.

The best part of the island is its 4 kilometer White beach which is the island’s main tourist attraction. It is lined with resorts, hotels, lodging houses, restaurants, shops and other businesses. Along this side specifies the three boat stations to land on the island basically named Stations 1 to 3. Stations 1 and 3 are situated roughly to the north and south endpoints and Station 2 at the center. Station 1 is situated away from the noisy revelries making it ideal for those just seeking peace and quiet accommodations. Station 2 is closest to the bars and night spots. Station 3 is where the cheaper lodgings are located. White beach offers a whole-day leisure, from beach-load activities during the day to all-out party during the night because in addition to restaurants, the beach is also lined with bars, pubs and night clubs.

Watching the Boracay sunset.

Right across White beach on the opposite side of the island is Bulabog beach, a part of the island where it’s windier which is a great destination for water sports such as windsurfing and kiteboarding or kitesurfing. Islands that host a variety of vacation spots for those who seek real fun and pleasure. With this number you'll surely find the adventure you've been wishing for. The Philippines is riddled with white-sand beaches, pristine waters, green lush vegetations. A perfect setting for vacationers seeking all the difference in a great summer getaway. Swimming, surfing, snorkeling, hiking and other summer-fun activities are all here. So if your are the outgoing type, love to sweat it out and love nature, the Philippines is a paradise for you.

The Philippines is broadly categorized into three main divisions namely, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Luzon, the largest of the three is in the north, Visayas is composed of several islands, and Mindanao in the south. From north to south, a grandiose scenery awaits spectators. From the wonderful beaches, magnificent landscapes, to mouth-watering delicacies, every visitor who loves tropical backdrop will surely savor his stay.

When to go

The Philippines has only two seasons: wet and dry. Wet season usually starts from May to October. A period where most typhoons or "bagyo" for the locals, hammer the country. For the dry season it will be from November to early parts of May. If you miss the warmth of a sunny weather then go summer fiesta during these season when it is perfect for vacations, getaways and adventures under the sun. Peak season usually starts in March during the Lenten season when the holiday stretches to almost a week and most people will go home to their hometowns to spend their summer vacation. Throngs of vacationers will hit the beach during these periods.

Ways to Travel

Island hopping is the best and most adventurous way to get around the whole archipelago. That means you will explore by air, sea and land. The good news is that you may be able to travel the whole archipelago without getting your feet wet. All possible forms of transportation are available at your disposal. From simple pedicab (a bicycle with attached sidecar), tricycles (motorcycle with attached sidecar), the all popular Philippine jeepneys, to sea vessels and planes which are just some of the options to get around and about. Taxis are available only in major cities such as Manila and Cebu. But buses will travel from as far as Northern Luzon to the Southern tip of Mindanao using Roll-On Roll-Off vessels aka Ro-Ro's. You must be wary of the schedules though as they don't ply the route every so often. Careful planning is needed in order to enjoy the trip.

People

Ninety percent of the populace speak and understand English so there shouldn't be any problem communicating. People are generally warm and hospitable. We Filipinos love tending to visitors. Drivers are helpful and honest. But of course like any other part of the world, there will devious individuals who will prey on unwary visitors. Rule of thumb, be very vigilant on who you are transacting with.
